Hobbyists raise pets, build model ships, weave baskets, watch birds, hunt animals, climb mountains, raise flowers, fish, ski, skate and swim. Hobbyists also paint pictures, attend concerts and plays, and perform on musical instruments. They collect everything from books to butterflies and from shells to stamps. People take up hobbies because these activities offer enjoyment, friendship, knowledge, and relaxation. Sometimes they even give financial profits. Hobbies help people relax after periods of hard work, and provide a balance between work and play. Hobbies also offer interesting activities for persons who have retired. Anyone, rich or poor, old or young, sick or well, can follow a satisfying hobby, regardless of his age, position, or income. Hobbies can help a person's mental and physical health. Doctors have found that hobbies are valuable in helping patients get restored from physical or mental illness. Hobbies give bedridden or wheel-chair patients something to do, and provide interests that keep them from thinking about themselves. Many hospitals treat patients by having them take up interesting hobbies or pastimes(娱乐). In early times, most people were too busy making a living to have many hobbies. But some persons who had spare time did enjoy hobbies. The ancient Egyptians played games with balls made of wood or pottery(陶器). People today have more time than ever before for hobbies. More people are retiring than ever before, and at an earlier age. Those who have developed hobbies never need to worry about what to do with their newly

C If parents bring up a child with the aim of turning the child into a genius(天才), they will cause great damage to him. According to several leading educational experts, this is one of the biggest mistakes that some parents make. Generally, the child will understand very well what the parents expect, and will fall. Unrealistic(不现实) expectations of the parents can cause great damage to children. However, if parents are not unrealistic about what they expect their children to do, but are hopeful in a sensible way, the child may succeed in doing very well---especially if the parents are very supportive to their children. Michael Li is very lucky. He is very fond of music and his parents help him a lot by taking him to concerts and let him attend piano and violin lessons. Although Michael?s mother knows very little about music, his father is a good musician. However, he never makes Michael enter music competitions if he is unwilling. Michael?s friend, Winston Chen, however, is not so lucky. Although both his parents are successful musicians, they set too high a standard for Winston. They want their son to be as successful as they are and so they enter him in every piano competition held. They are very unhappy when he does not win. “When I was your age I used to win every competition I enter.” Winston?s father tells him. Winston is always afraid that he will disappoint his parents and now he is always quiet and unhappy. 51. The main idea of the passage is _____. A. what differences there are between parents B. what aim of a child can be easier to reach
C. how parents should make a child a musician D. how parents should bring up their children 52. Michael is lucky because _____. Winston?s parents set so high a standard for him that _____. A. he has to do his best to do everything B. he has made greater progress in music C. he is afraid he may disappoint them D. he often wants to kill himself someday 54. It is one of the parents? worst mistakes if they _____. A. want their child to be a musician B. make their child try to achieve too much C. don?t care their child?s education much D. help their child to win music competition
D Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, “If I were any better, I would be twins!” He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation. Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, “I don?t get it! You can?t be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?” Jerry replied, “Each morning I wake up and say to myself, ?Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a
good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.” “Yeah, right, it?s not that easy,” I protested. “Yes, it is,” Jerry said. “Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It?s your choice how you live life.” I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it. Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination (开启号码锁的号码组合). The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma (创伤， 外伤)center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets(子弹) still in his body. I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I?d be twins. Wanna see my scars?” I refused to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. “The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. “Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live.” “Weren?t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?” I asked. Jerry continued, “The paramedics (护理人员) were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, ?He?s a dead man.? I knew I needed to take action.”
“What did you do?” I asked. “Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me,” said Jerry. “She asked if I was allergic(过敏) to anything. ?Yes,? I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and shouted, ?Bullets!?” Over their laughter, I told them. “I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.” Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything. 55. Jerry?s waiters would like to follow him around from one restaurant to another because ______. A. they could get well paid B. Jerry treated his staff in a friendly way C. Jerry was always ready to help others D. Jerry had a talent for encouraging others 56. Jerry survived at last due to ______. A. the fact that the injuries he received were not deadly B. the doctors? skill and his positive attitude C. his good luck and his right choice D. the developed medical equipment and staff 57. What was the real reason why Jerry said that he was allergic to bullets? A. After the accident he really became allergic to bullets. B. He was allergic to nothing so he decided to make people laugh at his answer. C. He used humor to show his determination to live and cheer up the medical staff. D. It was the bullets in his body that he wanted the doctors to take out. 58. What does it mean “In their eyes, I read ?he?s a dead man?”? A. He realized he was going to die. B. He was so seriously injured that he lost consciousness for a while. C. He knew the doctors and nurses had decided to give up saving him. D. In the doctors? eyes all the patients in danger are going to die.
59. What can be inferred from Jerry?s story? A. Perseverance can help us to win success at last. B. Life is full of choices and we shouldn?t be misled to the wrong way. C. Unlucky things can even happen to the most optimistic person. D. A positive attitude can make us live a full life. 60. Which of the following serves as the best title of the passage? A. Attitude is Everything C. A Narrow Escape B. A Unique Manager D. How to Make a Choice
第二节：阅读下列短文，从每题所给的七个选项（A、B、C、D、E、F、G）中，选出 最佳选项，并填写在答题纸上。 Almost everyone likes to eat apples. Apples grow in nearly every part of the world. The United States produces more apples than any other country except France. The states of Washington and New York grow the most apples. Washington is on the west near Canada. Apples are red, yellow or green. They are very popular in the United States. 62 Most 61 New York is on the east coast and
American people are often too busy or too tired to cook dinner, so they often have their dinners very simply. Apple juice is also a popular drink and apple pie is the favorite sweet dish for many Americans. 63 The trees there produce nearly five billion apples every year — one apple for every
man, woman and child in the whole world. 64 For example, “You are the apple of my eye.” means “You are actually the one I love
best and care most.” In China, it is a custom in some places for the marrying couple to hold an apple in each one?s hand, promising that their marriage will be “safe” without anything bad and that their marriage will never be broken. “To apple polish” often refers to a man who fawns (奉承) on somebody for the purpose of getting some benefits. So you can easily get “apple polisher”. However, “in apple-pie order” usually has the same meaning as “in good order”. it?s another saying about “compare two things that can?t be compared”. A. The state of Washington is proud of its apples. B. Apples play an important part in people?s health. 65 In fact,
C. There are many stories and sayings about apples. D. Perhaps this is why “New York” is often called “Big Apple” by some people. E. The apples in France are better than those in America. F. Many people like to carry apples to work or to school to eat with their lunches. G. It is likely that you hear about “compare apples and oranges”.

五、概括（满分 10 分）
阅读下面的短文，然后以大约 30 个词概括短文的内容要点。 An old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old grandson. The family ate together at the table, but the old man?s shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth. His son and daughter-in-law became angry with him. So they set a small table in the corner. There the old man ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since he had broken a dish or two, the old man?s food was served in a wooden bowl. Still, the only words the couple had for him was sharp admonitions(警告) when he dropped a fork or spilled milk. His grandson watched it silently. One evening, the son of the old man noticed the child playing with wood scraps and asked him sweetly, “What are you doing?” The boy responded, “Oh, I am making a bowl for you and mum to eat your food in when I grow up.” The words struck the boy?s father so hard that he was speechless. Then tears started to stream down his cheeks. That evening he led his father back to the family table. From then on, the old man ate every meal with the family. Neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled or the tablecloth soiled.

五、概括（满分 10 分） The story tells us that the grandfather was treated badly by his son and daughter-in-law and that the couple?s attitudes changed after they saw their son preparing a wooden bowl for them. 六、书面表达（满分 30 分） How to be a good learner Learning methods are of great importance to every student. Usually a good learner gets twice the result with half the effort. To be a good learner, as is generally believed, one should work out a proper study plan and regularly sum up what has been learned. In the meantime, one should learn to solve problems with the assistance of reference books, as well as seize every chance to learn and make the most of various learning resources. Besides, one is supposed to have a good rest when necessary. Personally, I attach great importance to diligence and practice, which are considered to be the key to success. For one thing, diligence is the means by which you make up for your dullness. For another, practice makes perfect. The more you practice, the easier it will be for you to master knowledge.

We need your attention. We have a lost boy at the front of the store. He has been in the manager?s office for 10 minutes, and no one has come forward to ask for him. He has light brown hair and blue eyes. (17) He is wearing a red T-shirt and jeans. He has a white T-shirt in his hand. On the back of the T-shirt is the word BOY spelled in big letters. He says his name is Jack. (18) He doesn?t know his mother?s name because he says he calls her “Mom”. He doesn?t know his address because he says his mom always takes him home. He appears to be about six years old. A clerk found him sitting in the toy section drawing in the coloring books there. (19) If his mother is still in the store, we ask that she come by and please pick up her son. (20)
